The minutes tick on as Etienne stands over the body of the teenager, hand over the girl’s eyes, completely unmoving.

Anders is getting impatient. He wants to rush over and threaten or yell or hurt Etienne, but he can’t chance it like this. He can’t risk disrupting Etienne when he could be bringing his daughter back to life.

“What the fuck is taking so long?” Anders growls before turning on me. “It didn’t take this long with you.”

“No, but my case was quite different,” I say.

“Or is he up to something else? Did he just kill my daughter to get back at me? Is that what he did?” he roars as he rushes over to the other side of the bed, but I put a hand out to stop him.

“What if you disrupt… whatever it is, and he can’t accomplish it?” I ask, honestly just wanting to keep Etienne safe.

I can see Anders’s anger building up from my daring to stop him from potentially keeping Etienne from accomplishing anything. The thing is, I get some sick satisfaction from telling this horrible man that I’ve had to fear my whole life what to do.

“Watch how you talk to me,” he growls.

I put both hands up but still refuse to move. That is until I hear a noise behind me and turn as Etienne pulls away from the girl and looks around the room.

He looks momentarily disoriented until his eyes catch mine, and I seem to ground him.

“Why isn’t she waking up?” Anders asks as he grabs Etienne and yanks him back.

“I… I don’t know. She probably needs a moment. I brought her back,” he says as he points at the monitor that’s slowly showing an increasing heart rate. It’s already almost back to normal.

“But she’s not fucking awake. You were supposed to fix her,” he yells.

“I don’t… you have to give it some time,” Etienne says before his gray eyes shift dark.

And as quick as that, he picks up a pen that’d been sitting next to a chart and slams it into Anders’s neck.

Everyone is so startled that it takes a moment for anyone to fully react. Anders lets out a howl of anger and pain as Etienne goes in again for another stab. Before he can reach Anders, a barrier is slammed into place that Etienne crashes into. Rage is filling Anders’s expression as he holds his hand out.

The two other guards are immediately on him a moment before the ground shakes and a dark shadowed creature steps out before Etienne. Etienne’s eyes are pale as I question if this shadowed creature is a part of Dyame. Whatever he is, he can easily push right through the barrier as Etienne turns fast to deal with a guard a moment before he cries out. Etienne stumbles hard and Dyame is snapped back into Etienne as the guard hits Etienne so hard across the head he slams him into the wall. Etienne pushes himself back up as he holds his hands out and the ground shakes again as beings begin to rise from it.
